When I started researching the Olympics, it was for the purpose of determining the economic benefits great enough to improve a country's global presence.It didn't take long before I realized that basic economic reasoning couldn't explain the reason for hosting the Olympics. There are few economic benefits. But, I did find that there was an increased global recognition of cultures. This presence could lead to benefits in the future derived from community, acceptance and understanding.As an advocate for Twitter, I realized that Twitter is representive of a new economy, and boosts the components of community, acceptance and understanding.I made my own Twitter account, @NewOlympicEcon, focusing on the modern Olympics to find out if an increased positive global presence is possible.
